Frequented Camp Manor while stationed at Madison Barracks in Sackets Harbor. He was a business partner of Elisha Ely Camp.
Founder of Sackets Harbor and brother-in-law of Elisha Camp. Augustus married Elisha’s sister, Minerva, and helped Elisha purchase his land in Jefferson County, NY, where Camp Manor stands today.
Kings of Hawaii. They visited Camp Manor as princes on their world tour from September 1849 to September 1850. The princes traveled with Gerrit P. Judd (pictured here with the princes) who was an American missionary, physician, and advisor to the King of Hawaii as well as a family friend of the Camps. Judd’s son, Albert Francis, married Agnes Hall Boyd, a granddaughter of Elisha. The group left behind a bust of the princes’ grandfather, King Kamehameha II, on the North Parlor mantle as a calling card.
Attended the dedication ceremony of the Heroes of 1812 Monument at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield on May 29, 1913, while he was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Speakers at the event included Camp relative and grandchildren, Col. Walter Camp and Elisha Camp. One hundred years later, on May 29, 2013, Camp descendants George Smith and Betsy Cuccinello spoke and performed at the Monument’s re-dedication ceremony for the two-hundredth anniversary of the Second Battle of Sackets Harbor.
The First Lady visited Camp Manor while her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, was Governor of New York.
Commander of the New York Militia and the Army of the Niagara during the War of 1812, whom Elisha Camp served. Brown eventually became the commanding general and the first Chief of Staff of the US Army during the presidency of James Monroe.
British war hero. Brig. Gen. George Stanley Smith served as his Intelligence Officer during World War II. Alexander himself presented General Smith with the Order of the British Empire at his award ceremony.
The infamous general was a roommate of Tully McCrea at West Point during their first year. Family legend has it that McCrea was almost kicked out of the academy for cheating on a project because of Custer, who is famous for having one of the worst conduct records in West Point history.
Licensed his steam engines for use on the Great Lakes to Elisha Camp.
